In this class the children are now becoming confident individuals and enjoy taking initiative in leading others: they get great pleasure from working things out themselves. As the children are all starting to read more at school they're ready to apply the same skills to reading music. By the end of the year they're able to sing well in tune as well as hear what they are singing in the heads. They understand pitch using hand signs unable to read pitch notation and rhythmic stick notation as well as learning to sight read rhythm and pitch. A strong sense of beat is also well established and they are becoming confident in working in two parts. They have a good understanding of the form of music which allows them to start improvising and they have developed good listening skills.
