Children at this stage are becoming more independent so with a little encouragement they are happy to be left on their own. They start to learn to take the initiative to their own actions and start to sing out more. This speech is also much more developed which allows the children to start understanding the rhythm of words and music, as well as the pulse. Once the children are confident in clapping rhythms simple notation is introduced using pictures.
